How to Import from OpenAlex
OpenAlex is an open catalog of the world's scholarly works. It often provides richer metadata than ORCID alone, including abstracts, full author lists, and citation data.
Why Use OpenAlex?
While ORCID is great for a quick import, OpenAlex can fill in details that ORCID may be missing:
- Abstracts — OpenAlex includes abstracts for most publications
- Full author lists — complete author information for each work
- Broader coverage — indexes over 250 million works from multiple sources
Prerequisite: Link Your ORCID First
OpenAlex uses your ORCID ID to find your publications. Make sure you've linked your ORCID before using this import method.
How to Import
- Go to the Import data page from your dashboard
- Click the OpenAlex import option
- Review the list of publications found
- Select the ones you want to import (all are selected by default)
- Click Confirm to add them to your profile
Filtering Results
OpenAlex may occasionally include publications by authors with the same name. Review the list carefully and deselect any publications that aren't yours. Publications you've already imported will appear at the bottom of the list, unchecked, so you won't accidentally create duplicates.
