Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of academically.me ("the Service"), operated by Robin Goudeketting ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Account Terms

• You must provide a valid email address to create an account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and all activity that occurs under it.
• You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
• One person may not maintain more than one free account.
• You may not use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
• We reserve the right to refuse service, terminate accounts, or remove content at our sole discretion.

2. Subscription & Billing

Paid features are available through a subscription plan. By subscribing you agree to the following:

• A free tier is available with core profile features at no cost.
• Pro subscriptions are available at €5 per month or €50 per year.
• Billing is handled securely by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled beforehand.
• You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; no partial refunds are issued.
• We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes do not apply retroactively to current billing periods.

3. Content Ownership

You retain full intellectual property rights over all content you submit to academically.me, including publications, biographical information, and any other materials.

By uploading or submitting content you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating and providing the Service. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Publish false, misleading, or fraudulent academic credentials or information.
• Infringe the intellectual property rights of others.
• Transmit spam, malware, or any harmful code.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
• Scrape or harvest user data in bulk without our explicit written permission.
• Impersonate another person or entity.

5. Profile Visibility

Public profiles on academically.me are accessible to anyone on the internet at {username}.academically.me. You control which sections of your profile are publicly visible via your dashboard. By choosing to make content public, you acknowledge that it may be indexed by search engines and accessed by third parties. We are not responsible for how third parties use publicly available profile information.

6. Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us at r.goudeketting@gmail.com. Upon closure, your public profile will be unpublished and your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you breach these Terms or if continued access poses a risk to the Service or other users.

7. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the reliability, accuracy, or availability of the Service.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Robin Goudeketting shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

8. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. When we make material changes we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice on the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Austria and applicable European Union regulations. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Vienna, Austria, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
